EALE/SOLE
3rd International Conference
17-19 June, University College London

The Third International Conference of the Society of Labor Economists (SOLE) and the European Association of Labor Economists (EALE) takes place in London on June 17-19, 2010. This event will surely be one of the most well attended economics conferences of the year, and the best attended labor economics conference of the next five years.

SOLE and EALE are the two most important organizations of labor economists in the world, based in the United States and Europe respectively. Even though each institution organizes its own annual conference, every five years they organize a joint international conference. This year the conference is hosted by University College London (UCL), which holds one of the world's top economics' departments. The current presidents of SOLE and EALE are both faculty members at UCL.

Speakers at plenary lectures are some of the most distinguished economists in the profession. Furthermore the speakers at the invited sessions are world class experts in their fields. All this, combined with an extremely interesting contributed and poster session programme and the fact that the conference takes place in a city such as attractive and accessible as London, means that attendance at this event will be very high.  Follow the link for more details on this conference.

Report on 13th IZA European Summer School in Labor Economics

May 15 – May 21, 2010

IZA hosted the 13th European Summer School in Labor Economics, which took place May 15- May 21 at the conference center of Deutsche Post World Net at the Ammersee Lake (near Munich) in Bavaria, Germany.

The Summer School counts on the institutional support of the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), the European Economic Association (EEA), the European Association of Labour Economists (EALE), and the European Society for Population Economics (ESPE). Its objective is to bring together a large number of PhD students and senior lecturers to study new areas in labor economics. This year 36 students attended the event, presenting their work. Sixteen nationalities were represented, creating again a very colorful and productive international environment.

Lecturers for this year’s Summer School were Pierre Cahuc (Ecole Polytechnique and IZA) and Petra Todd (University of Pennsylvania and IZA). Cahuc lectures concentrated on “Culture, Institutions and Labor Market Performance”, whereas Todd taught on “Method for Policy Evaluation”.

Two members of the IZA Summer School Advisory Committee participated in the event. Nabanita Datta Gupta in representation of the European Association of Labour Economists and Rudolf Winter-Ebmer in representation of the Centre for Economic Policy Research
